Having sustainable efforts or intentions is no longer enough. It’s now time to look at what sustainability in action looks like. Sustainability is pushing fashion in the direction of closed-circuit systems, where garments are created to be recycled. Many companies from major fashion labels to small, independent brands are putting their efforts into this business model. Gucci‘s Circular Lines is a great example of a bigger brand using their platform for good. The name of the line references the principle of circular design which is the idea of eliminating waste from production by the continual reuse of materials. These principles were put into practice by the brand in the first collection. Another great brand with an emphasis on sustainability is Fair Harbor. Fair Harbor Uses recycled water bottles to create their garments and will send a pre-shipping label for the customer to return for them to recycle.
